Rites Held Last Saturday For Harry Matheny, 82

Clearfield----Harry [Josiah Harrison] Matheny, 82, died June 6 at the home of his son, Joe Matheny, where he had been staying. He had lived for many years near Platteville northeast of Blockton and was well known in Taylor County. Surviving are four sons, Joe and Paul of Blockton, James [Harrison] of Bedford and Claude of Lenox; and three daughters, Mrs. Mary Straight, Clearfield; Mrs. Ruby Smith and Mrs. Amy Stewart of Blockton. Funeral services were held at Platteville Saturday, Rev. C. E. McPherson officiating. Burial was in Platteville cemetery.

Obituary - Josiah H. Matheny

Josiah Harrison Matheny, son of John [Collins] and Mary Jane [Maddox] Matheny, was born at Mineral Springs, Ohio, Nov. 8, 1868, and passed away at the home of his son Joseph in Blockton, June 6, 1951, at the age of 82 years, six months, and 28 days.

He was the second child of a family of 14 children. He came west with his parents when about 12 years old and settled close to Creston. From there they moved to Platteville, where he farmed all his life.

Mr. Matheny married Ruth [Alma] Reeves at the home of her parents in Platteville, Dec. 17, 1891. Nine children were born to this union: Joseph of Blockton; Wilbur of Blockton; James of Bedford; Paul of Blockton; Ruby Smith of Blockton; Amy Stewart of Blockton; Claude of Lenox; Mary Straight of Clearfield; and John Matheny of Blockton. Two sons Wilbur and John preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Matheny celebrated, their 59th wedding anniversary Dec. 17, 1950.

Other survivors are a brother, Albert of Blockton; three sisters, Mertie Cubbage of Kansas City, Leticia Templeton of Creston and Mary Ewart of Blockton.

He also leaves 39 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren.
