Mary Elizabeth Graffa, 97, of Taylor Road, died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Four Seasons Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Graffa was a very active and charitable individual all of her life. She enjoyed fishing, flowers and birds. She loved working in her yard and being with her family cooking.

She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Her great-grandfather helped build the Bartholomew County Courthouse and her grandfather was an attorney.

There will be a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a Rosary service being conducted at 7:30 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born Jan. 19, 1909 in Bartholomew County, Mrs. Graffa was the daughter of James and Pansy Everroad. She married Albert "Bud" Graffa, who was a local carpenter and World War I veteran.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Lora Mae Lowrey; grandchildren, Kathy (Jay) Trowbridge and Kevin (Sherri) Lowrey, both of Indiana; great-grandchildren, Nichole (Mark) Fairfield, Emily Marie Reynolds and Shawn Trowbridge, all of Indiana; great-great-grandchildren, Zoe Mae and Lily Noel Fairfield, both of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Victoria Everroad of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Jack D. Lowrey; and a brother, William Everroad.
