David Lee Rust

Mr. David Lee Rust, 58, of Strafford, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009. He was born on March 25, 1951 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Kenneth and Nadine (Johnson) Rust.

He grew up attending First Baptist Church in Cabool, Missouri, and was saved and baptized at an early age.

Growing up, David mowed lawns in the summer for spending money. He was a member of the 1968 Bulldog State Champion football team, which is still the only SCA team to win a state championship. David graduated from Cabool High School in 1969.

David was blessed with three wonderful children: Caleb, Joshua and Erica. He loved his family dearly. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren; he also enjoyed his horses and taking his boat out on the lake.

David worked as a diesel mechanic and owned his own business, Rust Truck Repair, for many years. For the last year he had worked for Meeker Transport.

David was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Rust, and two sisters, Debbie Ott and Russelle Larson.

He is survived by his mother, Nadine Rust; his children, Caleb Rust, Joshua Rust and Erica Rust; four grandchildren, Alex, Dylan and Harmony Rust and Jonathan Alamo; many nieces, nephews, relatives and countless friends.

As one of his friends said, "David was one of the nicest people that I ever knew. If you didn't like David, you don't like people."

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009, at Cabool First Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Marti officiating. Pallbearers were Randy Ott, Conrad Ott, Basil Quesenberry, Lonnie Mead, Brandon Mead and Nathan Houk. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Cabool First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 238, Cabool, MO 65689 or c/o the funeral home.
