Using the 47 yr. old figure from office records, deduct age of 47 yrs. brings birth year of 1891. Using toombstone calculator site the calculation comes to Sept 8, 1891 for 47y 01m 23d. It seems this stone is most likely wrong. I do not know who ordered, where it was purchased. The person that sent the e mail with provided info believes the monument must have been placed long after her death and incorrect birth year was given.

I am an active Grubaugh researcher and I'm working on a project to improve Grubaugh memorials in Find-a-Grave. Bessie was born a Grubaugh.

I recently posted a copy of Bessie's death certificate to this memorial. It is clear that the dates are different - far different in the case of Bessie's birth. The census records of 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 and the abbreviated obituary fully support the death certificate birth dates and leads me to suspect that the tombstone was purchased after the fact, perhaps when Bessie's husband, Robert died. My dates agree with the death certificate.

Bessie Catherine Grubaugh was born in 1891 to Charles Marion Grubaugh and Clara Belle McWilliams. She was the first of their 4 children. Her mother, Clara Belle, abandoned the family in 1900 and ran away with Alee B. Costlow. They eventually married, although it is suspected Clara Belle never divorced Charles. Bessie married Robert Floyd Putney on 2 May 1907 in Nixa, Christian County when she was only 15+ years old. They had 6 children together - Genevieve Vida Putney Hunter (1908-1928), Clyde Stanley Putney (1910-1986), Lula Blanch Putney (1912-1927), Daniel Arthur Putney (1916-1936), Ada L. Putney (1918-??) and Charles Putney (1922-??). Bessie died in 1938 and Robert died 12 years later. He never remarried.
