PLAINFIELD - Priscilla C. (Dyer) Allen, 98, passed away Saturday, April 18, in Clearwater, Fla.

She was born March 16, 1911, in Amherst to C. Fredrick and M. Arvilla (Sampson) Dyer. She lived in Amherst until the family moved to Plainfield in 1924 to live in the house her grandfather built. In 1960 she and her family moved to Dunedin, Fla.

Priscilla attended school in Amherst and Plainfield. She then attended Whitinsville High School and Dalton High School, graduating from Dalton in 1929. She then attended and graduated with a diploma in general and silver design from Massachusetts School of Art, now Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, in 1935. In 1993 she received an honorary Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the College's 120th anniversary.

During World War II, she was the chairman of the ration board in Plainfield. Priscilla held a variety of jobs, including postmaster for Plainfield, reporter for the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Plainfield and assistant town clerk and later town clerk of Plainfield. After moving to Florida, she worked briefly as a CNA and then in food service at the SpotLite Dinner in Dunedin, Fla. Priscilla was very active in civic organizations and was a member of the Plainfield Grange #232 for 85 years, holding several offices. She was also a member of Hillside Pomona #20, the Massachusetts State Grange and the National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry. She was president of the American Legion Auxillary #304 of Cummington, a first aid instructor for the American Red Cross both for the Hampshire County Chapter and the Upper Pinellas Chapter for over 30 years. She was a charter member of the What Nots of Plainfield and of the Suncoast Genealogy Society of Palm Harbor, Fla. She was a member of the Joel Hayden Chapter #17 of the Order of Eastern Star and a life member of the Plainfield Historical Society.

Priscilla was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin, Fla., teaching adult classes and was briefly the church librarian and an active member in the Presbyterian Women activities. She also was an associate member of the Plainfield Congregational Church, where she had been the church clerk and a member of the Ladies Benevolent Society. Priscilla was a summer resident of Plainfield since 1960. Since her retirement, she spent the summers in Plainfield for many years with her beloved late sister, Lt. Col. Arvilla Dyer.

Priscilla married the late Hubbel Allen of Goshen in 1943. She is survived by her three children, Charles F. (Chuck), Marcia G. and Nancy E. Allen, all of Dunedin, Fla. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin, the Suncoast Genealogy Society of Palm Harbor of the Plainfield Congregational Church and the Plainfield Historical Society.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 12, at 11 a.m. in Hilltop Cemetery in Plainfield. A memorial service will be held in July at a time to be announced.
