Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, May 4, 1916

Amos Hixson was born September 19th, 1842, in Guernsey county, Ohio, and departed this life Sunday evening, April 30th, 1916, at his home four miles north of Russell, after an illness of five days with pneumonia.

When but thirteen years of age he came with his parents to eastern Iowa, remaining there for a period of four years, then coming to Lucas county, where he resided until called to the great home beyond.

In 1864, he was united in marriage to Lucinda Etheredge. To this union six children were born, one of whom died in infancy. In 1882, his companion died. On May 13, 1886, he was united in marriage to Adaline Daugherty, and to this union were born three children.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and eight children, Mrs. Flora Long, of Russell; Mrs. Anna Cooper, of South Dakota; Mrs. Lenna Carson, of Chariton; Mrs. Millie Foster, of Des Moines; Miss Nora and Messrs. Swimley, Chester and Glenn Hixson, all of Russell.

He was a man who believed in the word of God and was an earnest student of the word.

Funeral services were held at the Bethel church on Tuesday forenoon at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Geo. J. Cornford, after which interment took place in the Bethel cemetery.
