Services for Betty Lou Harris, 68, New Chapel Hill, Texas are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. , Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Stewart Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Ford officiating.
Burial will be in Bascom Cemetery under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harris passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Hospice of East Texas.
She was born to the late John D. and Maudie Beddingfield Jacobs on July 30, 1936 in Liberty, Texas
Mrs. Harris lived in the Chapel Hill area most of her life. She retired as a nurse, was past PTA President in Chapel Hill, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She took care of many relatives in her home through the years. She and her husband loved to travel to the hill country. She loved to sew being an excellent seamstress, loved to cook especially for family during special events, and enjoyed working in her yard. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Her surviving family includes husband of almost 50 years, Cecil Harris of New Chapel Hill; children, William "Bud" Harris and wife, Thresa; Jayne Gandy and husband Doyle; Riley Harris and wife, Elaine: and Matt Harris and wife Vicki all of New Chapel Hill; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters Opal Pendregast of Jasper, Verna Norris of Lindale and Jo Alice Westberry of New Harmony; brother, John T. Jacobs of Mount Ida, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, William Gandy, Justin Abernathy, Jeremy Mullens, Wayne Keller, Chase Harris and Trey Harris.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., south Tyler, 75703
