Leo is the son of Bernard H and Caroline (Stukenborg) Nieberding.

He married Helen M Brackman on November 17, 1925 in St. Joe, Mercer County, Ohio.

He was in the US Army during World War 1. After his marriage in 1925 the family farm was passed down to his brother Al. Leo and Helen moved to Osgood then to Coldwater where he had a restaurant/bar which he lost during the depression, and then on to Fort Recovery. In Ft. Recovery they stayed for the rest of his life. Having lost his business and number of jobs, including making furniture at Mersman's Furniture Factory in Celina, Ohio and owning another restaurant/bar in Fort Recovery.

Leo enjoyed visiting with family and he especialy enjoyed playing cards.

Leo and Helen had six children.

Leo Nieberding Dies, Aged 72

Born at Philothea, Ohio, on November 25, 1896, Leo Nieberding a veteran of World War I, died in the Jay County Hospital, Portland, Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. of complications.

At one time Leo operated a restaurant here and married the former Helen Mary Brackman. He is the son of the late Bernard and Caroline Stukenborg Nieberding.

He is a member of the Fort Recovery American Legion post and the Holy Name Society of his church. The Rosary will be recited at the Brockman Funeral Home at 8 tonight. The body will be viewed by the American Legion members as a group at 8:30.

Services will be held from the Mary Help of Christians Church at 10 Friday morning followed by burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Ralph, Fort Recovery, and Paul of Eaton; and four daughters: Mrs. Joe Remaklus (Maryanne), Mrs. Alvin Kaup (Alma), Mrs. Hubert Sommers (Pat), and Miss Janet Nieberding all living in the Fort Recovery area.

A sister preceded him in death. The following sisters survive: Mrs. Henry Huelskamp and Mrs. Carl King, St. Joe; Mrs. Norbert Post and Mrs. Clarence Bergman, both of Coldwater; three brothers, Bill of North Star, Al of Maria Stein and Gus of Coldwater, also survive with 18 grandchildren.
