He was the son of the late Edwin and Edith Persons Austin and the husband of Natalie Pierce Austin for 45 years. He was a veteran of the US Army and retired from General Motors.
Survivors include a son, Bill Lucas of Enoree; three daughters, Moneen Burgett and Marilyn Trevisan of Michigan and Jerri Lou Johnson of Arizona, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
