Stephen J . Mathews , 69, of 2100 W. Genesee Turnpike, Camillus, died of cancer Wednesday at his home.
A native of Syracuse, Mr. Mathews also lived in Jordan and Weedsport before moving to Camillus in 1957, where he resided with Jay Davis. He was co-owner and operator of the Motel Thomas in Camillus and previously owned and operated the Red & White store in Camillus.
Mr. Mathews was an Army veteran of World War II and was held a prisoner of war by the German army.
Surviving are a brother, Nicholas of Jordan; two sisters, Catherine Bonnet of Camillus and Olga Ripley of Jordan; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, both in Camillus. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 10 Genesee St.
