Chester Leatherwood

Chester B. Leatherwood of Redmond, formerly of Eugene, died May 5 of age-related causes. He was 97. The funeral Mass was held May 12 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene.

He was born Nov. 6, 1911, in Burlington, Wash., to Roscoe and Emma Jones Leatherwood. He married Arthene "Genny" Gendron on Aug. 11, 1946, in Alameda, Calif.

Leatherwood served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He retired in 1970 as superintendent of the Eugene Main Branch Post Office and later was a courier for US Bank. He had a high school education.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeannie Groesz of Redmond and Pat Lussier of Cloverdale; a son, Paul of Bend; a sister, Mabel Rowney of Mariposa, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His wife died July 5, 2000, and a son, Tom, died in 1976.

Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Eugene. Arrangements by Deschutes Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Bend. Remembrances to Hospice of Redmond and Sisters.
