Gene Webb, age 89, of Coleman, died Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.

The family will host a time of visitation and fellowship from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, in Coleman.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2020 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Hetzel, officiating. Interment will follow in the White Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

He was born Gene Wilhoit Webb on August 10, 1930 in Galveston to Leary Friend Webb and Beulah Wilhoit Webb. At the age of four, Gene’s mother died, and he and his brothers came to Coleman where he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Ethel and Hayden Hargett. Gene grew up in Coleman and graduated Coleman High School in 1949. He attended McMurry University and Sul Ross University.

Gene married Jo Beth Guinn on February 22, 1972 in El Paso, Texas. They made their home in Santa Teresa, New Mexico until moving back to Coleman in 1989. Jo Beth died in 1990.
Gene married Linda Carol Andrews in 1992 in Coleman. He opened the Hords Creek Lake Store which became famous for its Friday night fried fish.

Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Downtown Men’s Sunday School Class. Gene was a wonderful man full of love and compassion. He deeply loved his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Jo Beth Webb and Linda Webb; brother, Joe Webb; and his beloved dog and companion, Shadow.

Gene is survived by his son, Stephen Lynn Lanz and wife Elizabeth of Mead, Colorado; stepson, Mitchell Alan Kerr; sister-in-law, Carolyn Webb of West Lake Hills, Terri Moore and husband Wayne of Coleman; and two grandchildren, Chandra and Chaz Lanz.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Gene to the Coleman Home Health and Hospice, 406 West Elm Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
