JONATHAN GAUNT, farmer, stockraiser and fruit-grower, Section 13, Perryton Township born in Apethorne, Lancashire, England, Feb. 19, 1839, son of Joshua and Ann (Hinchleff) Guant. Jonathan Gaunt came to America with his mother in 1851, arriving at New Orleans and came via the Mississippi River to Mercer County, where, in 1861, he purchased land in Perryton Township. Married Dec. 25, 1862, to Emily Damp, and to them eight children have been born, five of whom are living, viz.: Fernando, Cicero L., Lorenzo Dow, Eliza (wife of Burt Vannatti) and Albert. In politics he is a Democrat and has held the office of Road Commissioner and has been a member of the school board for thirty-six years. Member of the Masonic Order, Preemption Lodge No. 157, Preemption, Ill, and the family attend the Methodist church. Mr. Gaunt has 200 and Mrs. Gaunt 306 acres of land, all in Perryton Township, and the estate is devoted extensively to raising cattle, hogs and poultry, and also contains twenty acres of choice fruit trees.
