William Alvie Cash was born in 1900 in Dublin, Graves County, Kentucky. He was the son of Robert Ewen Cash and Georgia Ann Guill. He joined the USA in 1916 and served first in Arizona and then in WWI in Battery F of the 10th Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division at the second battle of the Marne, France, and came home on the USS Arizona. He had received severe injury from mustard gas (which ultimately killed him) and came home soon after the shooting stopped. His unit became known as "The Rock of the Marne". He served in the 34th Infantry, 7th Division at Camp Funston in Kansas after his return and transfered to the reserves in 1920 and reenlisted in the Army in 1923 and served until 27 November 1926. Bill married Hazel Lena Dodson on 12 January 1927. They had one son, James William Cash (1928-2007). Corporal Cash was active in the VFW and was employed and lived at Sawtelle when he died.
