ATWOOD – Lawrence H. "Larry" Ingrum, 78, of Atwood passed away at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, with his family by his side at the Arthur Home, Arthur.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the United Church of Atwood, 210 N. Main St., Atwood, with the Rev. Veronica Don officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 E. U.S. 36, Atwood, with Masonic Services being held at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood, with military graveside rites accorded.

Larry was born on January 10, 1931, in Douglas County, the son of Hubert and Edith Durnil Ingrum. He married Norma F. Harshbarger on August 20, 1952, in Tuscola. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Karen Howell and her husband, Dave, of Morton and Janice Hutchcraft and her husband, Jeff, of Atwood; three grandchildren, Ryan Gregory of Atwood, Krystal Miller and her husband, Andy, of East Peoria and Drew Howell of Morton; two brothers, Ray Ingrum of Arcola and Roger Ingrum of New Concord, Ky.; and three sisters, Mildred Childress of Minnesota, Ethel Needham of Denver and Mary Olehy of Crawsfordsville, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Cheryl Lynn Ingrum; one brother, Joe; three sisters, Maxine, Vera and Fern; a son-in-law, Ronnie Rentz; and his stepmother, Matilda.

Larry retired from Quantum-USI Chemical Company in 1994, where he had worked as a process mechanic for 39 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served on the USS Rochester, a heavy cruiser, for four years.

Larry was a member of the United Church of Atwood and was a member and past master of the Atwood Masonic Lodge 651, AF & AM.

He loved learning and reciting poems, which his class, the "Forty-Niners," and many friends heard him recite. He liked country dancing and was known for his yard and garden. He loved walking and riding bicycles. His girls and their families were his pride and joy.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or United Church of Atwood.
