"Funeral services for the late Reuben Perkes were held in our ward chapel Sunday at 2 p.m.

A large audience gathered to pay tribute to the memory of the deceased and to his family who survive him. The floral contributions were many and beautiful.

The services began by the choir singing, "Through Deepening Trials Throng Your Way." Prayer was offered by George F. Ashcroft. Arthur Peterson and wife next sang, "Only Remembered by What You Have Done." Elder Thomas Duce of Alberta Canada, a comrade of many years, was the first speaker, recounting many incidents of the early settlement of our fair town wherein himself and deceased had taken part.

Elder J.W.D.Hurren was the next speaker telling of the useful life of deceased and the many public positions filled. "Through the Night" was next sung by the choir.

Elder Edward Thurman of Grover, Wyoming, a pioneer of Hyde Park, and a resident here for many years told of his being raised with deceased in the same family and of his pleasant memories of days past in our town.

Bishop William Hyde of Logan, also a pioneer of Hyde Park, recounted many incidents of the past. Eugenia Lundquist of Smithfield, very beautifully rendered, "Resignation". Elder A.E. Cranney representing the Cache Stake presidency bore testimony to the record made by deceased and exhorted all to imitate those qualities of deceased that are elevating and progressive.

Bishop J.W. Seamons recounted many points of the life events of deceased and thanked all for their several parts in the sickness and death of deceased.

The choir sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and the benediction was pronounced by Elder George F. Ashcroft.

A large crowd followed the remains to the cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Elder Stephen Thurston.

Reuben Perkes was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England, August 13, 1845, and died August 19, 1925, making him eighty years of age. With his parents he emigrated to this country in 1854 coming on the steamer, "Germanica" landing at New Orleans from whence he proceeded on the Mississippi river to Illinois, where they remained and labored to save sufficient to come the rest of the way.

This they did in the fall of 1862, coming directly to Hyde Park, where he remained until his death. He was the son of the late James and Eliza Perkes.

In 1870 he was married to Ellen (Nellie) Aldred from which union the following children survived, James W., Reuben A., Thomas M., Mrs. Kate Matkins, and Mrs. Nellie Cook, all residing in Hyde Park, and Mrs. Vilda Jones of Ogden, also four sons who preceded deceased as also the above wife, who died seventeen years ago last May.

Some fifteen years ago he married Mrs. Sarah Ann Matkin, who with the above children survived him. Also, one sister, Mrs. Leah Poppleton (full sister), of Wellsville, and Kate Harris (half sister) of Hyde Park. The life events of Reuben Perkes are the events of the growth and progress of Hyde Park in the erection of public buildings and all public work his part was always well taken, always being willing to give his time freely for the betterment of all concerned. We shall remember him long for his many qualities which have spelled for him success.

Many relatives came from a distance to attend these services. Among them being, Mr. and Mrs Edward Thurman of Grover, Wyoming, also their daughter and sons: Edward and Bishop Ray Thurman, George Griffith of Dayton, Idaho, Edward Griffith of Fairview, Idaho, together with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Talbot, Mr and Mrs. Robert Bodily, and Mr. and Mrs. Aldred of Fairview, Idaho."
