William Adams was born in Bedford Co PA. He was the son of William and Gertraudt Adam. Their wills were filed in Bedford Co and list William, his brother John and his sister Mary Ann. (Family Search, digital copies in possession of Lynne Adams Farr.) William and John both moved to Knox Co OH in 1831 & 1836 respectively.
William Adams and Orpha Gertrude Lennard are often listed as his parents in error. William and Orpha Gertrude Adams lived in MS and are buried there. Their son William is also buried in MS. William Adams' father is also sometimes listed as Jacob Adams of Mifflin Co PA. Jacob Adams' sons William and John Adams are both buried in Juniata Co PA. In 1831, the portion of Mifflin Co in which they lived became part of the new Juniata Co. This William and John never moved to Knox Co OH. They are buried in Juniata Co PA along with William Adams' wife Caroline. (original documents in the possession of Lynne Adams Farr)

William Adams' first wife was named Mary Ann according to a deed they both signed in Bedford Co PA 18 Jan 1826. She died between 1826 & 1829. Her children were Barbara "Barbary" Adams, William G. Adams and Elizabeth Adams. His second wife was Ellen possibly Teeter. Her name appears on a deed with him 1 Nov 1830 in Bedford Co PA. She died in 1831 during or soon after giving birth to daughter Mary Anna Adams. After Ellen's death, William Adams moved to Knox Co OH and married Elizabeth Grubb there in 1831. She died 2 March 1844 a few days after the birth of her son Israel P. Adams. Their other children were Sarah Ann Adams, Simon Quincy Adams, David Washington Adams, Elias Adams and Susan Ellen Adams. William Adams married a fourth time to Mary Polly Lantz. There children were Priscilla Ann Adams, Thomas Jefferson Adams, Amanda Elvina Adams and Jasper Bartholomew Adams.
A marriage of a William G. Adams to Susannah Grubb (Elizabeth Grubb's sister) is sometimes listed in error as this William Adams. The William Adams who married Susannah Grubb was William Adams' son William G. Adams (also listed on tax records and deeds as William Adams Jr.) William Jr. and Susannah moved to Illinois where she died. William Adams Jr. remarried and moved to Jefferson Co NE where he died 25 April 1898. His half sister Mary Anna Adams married John Quinn and moved to Jefferson Co NE as well. She died there 19 May 1920.
Several children of Simon Q. Adams (Elizabeth Grubb Adams' son) moved to Jefferson Co NE at the same time.
