MILBURN, Rita Ann On May 6, 2009, another long-time Mojave resident went home. Rita Ann Milburn passed away at her son's home surrounded by family. Born in Wewoka, Okla., on Dec. 3, 1931, to Jolly and Ellen Franklin, she came to Mojave with her brothers, Carl and Dewey Mac in 1936, when her dad came to work in the Golden Queen Mine. Rita graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1949, and married Nolen Milburn, Sr. on Sept. 6, 1950. Twenty years and five kids later, they returned to Mojave, where Nolen retired from the Navy and began to work at the Mojave Post Office. Rita was active in Mojave's Rebekah's and worked behind the scenes at the Mojave Senior Meals Program for many years. Her children kept her busy as well, with school projects, 4-H, sports, Guide Dog Puppy Raising Program, and band activities. In her later years, she enjoyed the creativity and friendship of the quilting classes she attended. Rita will always be cherished by her friends and family for all of the humor and love she shared with them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolen, and her son, Dan. She is remembered by her son, Nolen Milburn, Jr. and wife, Linda of Lancaster; daughter, Sarah Stead of Mojave; son, Jeff Milburn and wife, Julie of Lancaster; daughter, Cathy Chenoweth and husband, Craig of Mojave; brothers, James Franklin and wife, Karen of Tehachapi; Larry Franklin of Ridgecrest. She is also loved by six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins. If you would like to remember Rita in a special way, a donation to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., Puppy Raising Program would support a cause she loved for over 30 years. The family invites you to share your memories with them on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in Mojave. Viewing will be at 10 a.m., at Stickel Mortuary, 2201 Inyo St., Mojave followed by a graveside service at Mojave Public Cemetery, 2040 Belshaw Avenue. There will be a gathering of friends and family after the interment at the Veteran's Hall at Mojave Park.
