Professional Baseball Player. He played four seasons with the Detroit Tigers from 1934 thru 1937. Playing behind Hank Greenberg at third base, he saw limited action. He only played in 87 games during that four-year span and had a career batting average of .200.American Professional Baseball Player. Clifton played a total of 13 years in professional baseball, 9 with various teams in the minors and 4 in the majors, all with the Detroit Tigers as an Infielder. He got his start with the Tigers April 29, 1934. Clifton made the Tigers' roster in 1934, but was unable to find a spot in the starting lineup. The 1935 season was pretty much like the 1934 season, not much playing time during the regular season play. The Tigers made the World Series again in 1935 and this time Clifton got to play in game 2, because of an injury to the starter at third base. Clifton saw limited action with the Tigers in 1936 and 1937. In 1936, he appeared in only 13 games for the Tigers and compiled a .192 batting average. After being sent back down to the minors and being called back to the majors in 1937 he received limited play time. He played his last MLB game on July 1, 1937 for the Detroit Tigers, the only MLB team he ever played for in his career. His career MLB statistics were Batting average .200, Hits 39 and RBI 13.
