Charles Benton Parrish was born in Wilson Mills, Johnston Co, the youngest of 4 known children (2 girls / 2 boys) born to farmers, Justus/Justice Augustus Parrish (CSA) and his wife, Martha Godwin. His father served as a private in the NC 50th Regiment, Co. C.
He is the maternal grandson of David Parrish & Elizabeth "Betsy" Johnson of Pleasant Grove, Johnston Co; and Gr-grandson of Justice Parrish of Goochland Co, VA and his wife, Averyella Fluellen of Johnston Co, NC. He is the maternal grandson of Stephenson "Stephen" Godwin & Elizabeth "Lizzie" Flowers of Clayton, Johnston Co, NC. Of note, his mother's sister, Emmerline Godwin, married his father's brother, Isaac Parrish.
Charles married when he was 24 to an unknown woman, by whom a child was born, Vernon Parrish (c. 1895). He was widowed by 1900, and caring for his widowed mother and the child. In 1903 he married Lela W., and by her 6 more known children were born: Gladys Mattie (c. 1904), Millard (c. 1906), Cleon Talmage (1907), Fulton (c. 1909), Walter (1911), and Garland (c. 1915).
Charles & Lela farmed in Wilson Mills, and cared for his aged mother who died sometime after 1920, after the age of 82.
Charles Parrish died in 1950 at about age 80.
