Lennie J. Jones was born George Lennie Jones in Hampton, Hampton, South Carolina to George W. Jones and Cynthy Jane Stanley (Jones). The Jones family moved to Georgia in the early 1900s, prior to 1910.
At the age of 18, Lennie married Maybell (spelled Mabel in their marriage certificate and Maybelle in Lennie's death certificate) Corley in Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia on 6 April 1913. They had three sons: Carlos, Rufus and Lee Otis Jones and six daughters: Bertie Mae, Irma, Ovedia, Elva Lee, Nana L. and Cleta Jones. Lennie died on 20 November 1965 in Claxton, Evans County, Georgia of a heart attack.
