Corbett resident Gerald "Jerry" Stomps, 60, died Saturday, Feb. 7.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Corbett Community Church, 34309 N.E. Mershon Road. A private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Jerry was born Sept. 6, 1948, in Portland to Ervin W. and June W. Stomps. He grew up in Boring and Gresham and graduated from Centennial High School, where he was a state track champion, in 1967 and enlisted in the Army that same year. He served in the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1973.
In September 1970, he married Hazelynn Plant in Sandy. They later moved to Corbett.
Jerry was self-employed as a rental property owner and manager, a landscaper and a Christmas tree farmer. He received a degree in pastoral ministry from the Multnomah School of the Bible and ministered for several years in Gresham area nursing homes.
Jerry was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter. He was a member of Corbett Community Church.
His brothers, Rick R. Stomps and Mark R. Stomps, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, June Stomps of Gresham; sons, Adam Stomps of Corbett and Jason Stomps of Amboy, Wash.; brother, Scott Stomps of Oregon City; sister, Shari Dallman of Selah, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
