Sandra Tolbert, 63, of Amarillo died Thursday, May 7, 2009.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Jim Watkins officiating.

Mrs. Tolbert was born March 23, 1946, in Fredericksburg to Elias and Ruby Priess. She graduated from Vega High School in Vega in 1964 and in 1968 from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science in nursing.

She married Dennis Tolbert on May 17, 1969, in Vega. She worked as a registered nurse for 40 years, primarily at St. Anthony's Hospital, and later at Baptist St. Anthony's. Although she worked outside of the home, she was a talented and tireless homemaker, whose greatest accomplishments were being a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and "Nana" who gave herself totally and without reservation to her family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Priess.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Tolbert; a daughter, Susan Thate and husband Trent of Amarillo; her father, Elias Priess of Fredericksburg; a sister, Peggy Hedrick and husband John of Boerne; two grandchildren, Mason Thate of Bremerton, Wash., and Lindsay Thate of Amarillo; and two nephews, Jacob Hedrick and Zachary Hedrick of Boerne.

The family suggests memorials be made to Amarillo SPCA, 11901 S. Coulter St., Amarillo, TX 79119; Amarillo Humane Society, 3501 S. Osage St., Amarillo, TX 79118; or a favorite charity.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
