Born by about 1620 (based on estimated date of marriage). Innkeeper from Tenterden, Kent who came to Plymouth Colony in 1635 on the "Hercules" & settled in Scituate MA. (On 4 March 1634/5, "Edw[ar]d Jeakins," one of seven servants of Nathaniel Tilden of Tenterden, Kent, was included in the list of passengers of the Hercules of Sandwich). Died between 2 March 1698/9 (date of will) and 20 July 1699 (date of inventory).
MARRIAGES: (1) By about 1645 Lettice (Hanford) Foster, daughter of Jeffrey and EGLIN (Hatherly) HANFORD {1635, Scituate} and widow of EDWARD FOSTER {1632, Scituate}.
(2) Hingham 17 June 1684 Mary (Farnsworth) Ripley, widow of Abraham Ripley.
The passenger list entry for this immigrant, as published, calls him "Jeakins" rather than Jenkins. Also, no record is found for him in New England until 1643. Taken together, these facts might throw some doubt on the identification of this passenger as the Edward Jenkins who appeared in Scituate in 1643. His position on the passenger list as a servant of Nathaniel Tilden, who settled in Scituate, relieves these doubts, as do the later interactions between Edward Jenkins and various members of the Tilden family.
