Nettie was born December 26, 1912 to Henry Applegate and Eunice (Wills) Applegate in Shell Knob, Mo. She graduated from Aurora, Mo. High School in 1933 and continued her education at Arkansas City Junior College, graduating in 1961. In 1963, she completed her bachelor's degree and received her teaching certificate from Southwestern College and taught at Rose Park, C- 4 and Sleeth Elementary schools. In November 1940, she married J. Emmer Williams in Lexington, Mo. and the couple made their home in Higginsville, Mo. until moving to Aurora, Mo. In 1945, the couple moved to Arkansas City. Nettie was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a quilting guild.
She is survived by her son, Gary Williams; two grandchildren, Ginger Williams and Brad Williams, all of Arkansas City, a brother, Jake Applegate of Wichita. Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1959; four brothers, Oren Applegate, Loren Applegate, Paul Applegate and Loyd Applegate; four sisters, Dona Redding, Rena Grimes, Avis Alexander and Erma Faye Shrider.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City, is in charge of the arrangements.
