SHELLEY - John William Dewsnup, 82, of Shelley, died Dec. 1, 1997, at his home following a prolonged illness.

He was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Delta, Utah, to Charles Edward and Amanda Ann Bunker Dewsnup. He grew up in Delta, where he attended schools and graduated from Hinckley High School.

During World War II, he served with the 270th Engine Combat Battalion in the European Theater of Operations and attained the rank of Tec 5.

He drove milk truck for Highland Dairy in Salt Lake City for many years.

On Feb. 14, 1978, he married Grace Taylor in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was a High Priest and had served as Sunday School superintendent, counselor in the bishopric, on the Stake High Council, as a temple officiator, and he and his wife served two missions: one to Kauai, Hawaii and Saipan; and one to the Atlanta Georgia Temple. He loved to read and to spend time with his family. His hobbies included working in his garden, working with wood and making crafts.

Survivors include his wife, Grace of Shelley; sons, Jerry William (Deanna) Dewsnup of Sandy, Utah, Merriel Cleveland (Toni) Dewsnup of Salt Lake City, and Lawrence Charles (Jerry Lynn) Dewsnup of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters, Roberta (Jerry) Petty of Shelley, and Alma (Robert) Blakeslee of Burley, Idaho; two sisters, Mabel B. Theobald and Vivian D. Ekins, both of Tooele, Utah; 21 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Shelley 4th LDS Ward, 184 N. Park, with Bishop Michael Cummings officiating. The family will visit with friends at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak in Shelley, Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and Friday for one hour before the services. Burial will be in Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
