Mrs. Isaac S. Boyd Dies in 87th Year - Mrs. Eleanor (Irwin) Boyd, widow of Isaac Boyd of 131 Grandview Rd., Ardmore and the mother of seven sons including D. Rae Boyd civic leader and funeral director, died early Fri. morning at the Fair Villa Nursing Home, Norristown, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Boyd was 86 years of age Jan. 27th. The long-time resident of Ardmore saw four of her eight sons serve in WWI, two with the Canadian forces and two with the American forces. I. Scott Boyd and Malcolm Boyd served with Canadian armed forces and George I. with the 79th Div. and D. Rae, with a Military Intelligence unit of the US Army. Two other of her sons, James G. and Edwin, served respectfully with the US Marines Third Div. in the Pacific and with the 13th Armored Div. under Gen. Patton in Europe. Born in Co. Armagh, [Northern] Ireland, Jan. 27, 1872, Mrs. Boyd was a daughter of the late George and Rachel (Thompson) Irwin. She resided in Ardmore for more than 60 years. Her late husband, Isaac Scott Boyd, died in 1914. Mrs. Boyd had been ill for 10 years and seriously ill for the past 12 months. Her son, D. Rae, was the youngest Montgomery Countian to serve in WWI. He Enlisted at the age of 14 from Lower Merion High School. Mrs. Boyd was a charter member of the Bullock Sanders Post No. 136 American Legion Auxiliary, Ardmore. 10 brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons, George I., a real estate broker of Ardmore; Malcolm H., Wilmington; D. Rae, 718 Swede St.; Joseph E., of 718 Swede St, Norristown, and John A., of Cynwyd, a police officer with the Lower Merion Twp. Police Dept., and Edwin, of Wenonah, NJ and employee of E.G. Budd Co., Phila. Another son Isaac was killed in Ardmore in 1934 while driving a fire engine for an Ardmore fire company. He swerved to avoid hitting a car while on the way to a fire and suffered fatal injuries when pinned under the fire truck, Services will be held at 11am Mon. at the Boyd Funeral Home, with the Rev. A.S. Wohlsen, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Norristown, officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Luther Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9, Sun. evening at the funeral home. Eleanor last resided at 131 Grandview Rd. in Ardmore. She died Jul. 4, 1958 in Norristown, PA. Her funeral was from the Boyd Funeral Home.
