Alma (McKay) Brennen, 96, of Great Falls, a former service department clerk, died of natural causes Tuesday at a local hospital.
Her funeral is 11 a.m. today at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel, with burial in Highland Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Alma died surrounded by her family.
She was born in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan, Canada, on May 4, 1913, to Robert and Susanna (née Pomfret) McKay. She was raised in Nokomis, Saskatchewan, where she completed her elementary and secondary education. Alma earned teacher certification from Regina Normal School in 1931, and taught in one-room schools across Saskatchewan, until she moved to the United States in 1952, and settled in Great Falls.
Alma married Thomas E. Brennen in 1936, and the couple had three sons. In 1957, Alma married Andy Nault, at which time his daughter, Shari Nault, joined the family.
Alma was employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. from 1952 until her retirement in 1982. She worked in the service department and is remembered by many people who came to Sears for parts and service on their appliances and equipment.
During her 27 years of retirement, she enjoyed traveling to many countries around the world. With children scattered across the country, Alma was a frequent flyer, often visiting her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her three sons, Gerald D. Brennen and his wife Barbara of Nashua, N.H., Patrick Wayne Brennen of Rockport, Texas, and Lyle Brennen of Bel Air, Md.; her stepdaughter, Shari Nault of Billings, Mont.; Kathie Raunig of Helena, Mont., whom Alma considered a second daughter; a sister, Mabel Trosterud Sayer of Edmonton, Alberta; her grandchildren, Robin Brennen and Jayson Brennen; stepgranddaughters Kimberlee Garcia, Heidi Martincic and Holly Nault Pullar; and great-grandchildren Jayla Brennen and Tyler Brennen.
