Bernie is my wonderful father in law. He was born and raised in Skagit Valley, Washington. He was a powerful large man who's one hand was larger than both of mine yet had the most gentle heart. He had two sons Chuck, Bud and a daughter Terry.

He was oldest of eight children. He served his country in the Merchant Marines during WW2 and was very patriotic. He was known as a mans man.

For fifty years Bernie worked as an Operating Engineer. He was known for and took great pride in his hours of labor tending to his yards and gardens over the years. His landscaped yards were much like parks with no weeds daring to grow.

Bernie's greatest joy came from his family and friends. If anyone came within 10 feet of his yard he would strike up a conversation. He genuinely enjoyed people.

He leaves 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He and his beautiful wife Wanda were married for 62 years and met as pen pals during WW2.

Bernie was a character that made me laugh until I hurt. I love him dearly and miss him each day. He and my Mom had the same fun personality and I know they are entertaining heaven.
