William Sanford "Billy" Biggs Jr., 71, died Thursday at HCA Putnam Community hospital following a long illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Georgetown. He was a retired postal clerk with the U.S. Post Office. He was the assistant chief and one of the founders of the Georgetown-Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lifetime member of the Georgetown-Fruitland Community Center and a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Fruitland and an army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe.

He is survived by his step-daughter, Bernice Clymer of Georgetown; sister, Ida Louise Grimes of Georgetown.

The funeral is 3 p.m. Saturday at Beulah Baptist Church in Fruitland with the Rev. Robert White and the Rev. Ira Ramey officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Biggs Funeral Home, Lake City, is handling the arrangements, with Johnson-Overtuff Funeral Home the local arrangements. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 25 Mar 1994.)
