Mary Josephine Garnett, 85, Overland Park, KS, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2000, at the Garden Terrace of Overland Park, KS. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 31, at the Hope Lutheran Church, Quivira and Shawnee Mission Pkwy; burial in the Shawnee Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Garnett was born December 25, 1914, in St. Louis, MO. She lived in the Shawnee, Paola and Overland Park areas most of her life with her husband, Hallis Garnett, who served as mayor of Shawnee from 1953-54. They were charter members of the Hope Lutheran Church. Jo loved music, the outdoors, mountains and traveling. She enjoyed most of all being a stay-at-home mother. Jo was preceded in death by her husband; and grandson, Greg Brown. Survivors include her son, Mark Garnett, Mission, KS; two daughters, Alice Brown, Pullman, WA, and Barbara Brown, Mission, KS; three grandchildren, Ryan Garnett, Emily Garnett and Elizabeth Riggins; and two great-grandchildren, Sara and Jordan Riggins.
