Spanish American War veteran; son of Flavius Addleman and Mary Jane Courtney. He was born and raised in Whitewater, Wayne County, Indiana. He enlisted in the 161st Indiana Volunteers as a Private in Company F on June 27, 1898. Company F was a volunteer company that was organized at Richmond, Wayne County for the Spanish American War.

He was appointed Corporal on August 20, 1898. He was mustered out on April 30, 1899. He died of tuberculosis at the Soldiers Home in Monterey, California.

At this time, the exact location of his burial is unknown. He was married but had no children at the time of his death.
