Victoria -- Peter Herl, 95, formerly of 206 E. 15th, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at St. John's Rest Home, where he had been a resident for seven years. He was born Nov. 5, 1906, in Munjor to Anton and Anna Marie (Rohr) Herl.
He married Helen Zimmerman on Nov. 11, 1961, in Munjor. She died in April 1983.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He owned Pete's Plumbing and Heating in Hays and was a steamfitter. He retired in the mid-1980s. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Hays.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Joy Wade, Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alex, Henry and Albert, and four sisters, Anna Gross, Pauline Keuchel, Christine VanSlyck and Elinor Vinyard.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Earl Befort officiating; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by the Hays VFW. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
