Portage, UT – William Leon Gibbs passed away in his 94th year of life Thursday, May 15, 2008. He was born February 22, 1914 in Portage, UT the oldest of nine children to J. Hyrum and Hazel Orgill Gibbs. He grew up in Portage and attended elementary school there. He graduated from Bear River High School where he was active in basketball and track. He married his high school sweetheart Harriet Maurine Hall in the Logan LDS Temple November 22, 1934. They were the parents of six children.

Bill was a High Priest in the Portage LDS Ward. He served in various church callings and was a faithful home teacher.
He was a farmer and cattleman. His main hobby was his love of horses. He belonged to the Bear River Cutter Association and the Box Elder County Posse where he served as Chief. He also served as Mayor of Portage.

Dancing was Bill and Maurine's favorite thing to do together while they were young and through their golden years.

Our Father has returned to his Father in Heaven where he was reunited with his sweetheart, his Son Bryan, one Grandchild Jared Ross Petty, his parents, five Brothers and one Sister.

Surviving are two Daughters: Carole Ann (Merrill) Petty; Sharon (Dick) Green; three sons William H. (Bill) Gibbs; Sid (Leslie) Gibbs; Val (Karen) Gibbs; Daughter-in-law LaNette Gibbs Andersen, 22 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, one Brother Leo DeLos Gibbs and one sister Velda Gibbs Harris.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2008 11:00 A.M. at the Portage LDS Ward Chapel 8910 West 25800 North, Portage, UT. Friends may visit the family Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home 111 North 100 East Tremonton, UT as well as on Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:40 A.M. at the church prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at the Portage Cemetery.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the kind care given to their father.

The family suggest donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church or to a charity of your choice.
