FAYETTE Thomas Madison, age 73, of Crestview, Fla., formerly of Fayette, died Friday May 1, 2009 at the North Okaloosa Medical Center. Funeral Service for Mr. Madison will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Norwood Chapel Funeral Home. Full Military Honors will follow at the Oakgrove Methodist Church Cemetery with Norwood Chapel Funeral Home of Fayette directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Norwood Chapel Funeral Home in Fayette.

Mr. Madison was born in Fayette County on January 31, 1936, the son of the late Chester Lee and Jessie Lea Owen Madison. He was one of the original members of the Fayette National Guard and joined the Air Force on September 23, 1954. During his military career, Tom served his country at the following military bases: Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas; Wichita Falls, Texas; Salina AFB, Kansas; Goose Bay, Labanor, Canada; Homestead AFB, Fla.; Yokota AFB, Japan; Cameron Bay, Vietnam; George AFB, Calif.; Langley AFB, Va.; RAF Bentwaters, United Kingdom; Eglin AFB, Fla. He retired as Chief Master Sergeant in September 1975 and returned to Fayette. Tom and his wife Gaynell moved to Crestview, Fla. in March 2004 where he lived until his death.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Teresa Elaine Madison on September 25, 1957.

He is survived by his wife, Gaynell Harkness Madison; two daughters, Gloria (Chuck) Fey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Sylvia (Rick) Champion of Northport, Ala.; two sons, Steven (Fiona) Madison of Kingstone, England and Stuart (Karen) Madison of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren, David Fey, Joseph Fey, Chris (Chloe) Champion, Farris (Jason) Wallace, Daniel (Amanda) Fey and Ross Madison; one great-granddaughter, Lily Champion; two sisters, Buelah Mae Sink of Laural, Md. and Dorothy Evelyn Madison of Washington, DC.; and two brothers, Frank Madison of Winfield, Ala. and George W. Madison of Lynn Haven, Fla.
