Gertrude C. Scott, 92, of Connersville, died May 5, 2009.

Born Nov. 2, 1916 in Fayette County, she was the daughter of Ray and Cecilia Wagner Chance, both deceased. She married Charles H. Scott June 18, 1938; he preceded her in death Nov. 18, 1985

Mrs. Scott graduated from Harrisburg High School. She worked in the men's wear and shoe department at J.C. Penny's for several years, and at the former J's Drive-In and Bill's Drive-In in Connersville. She was a member of Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, was past president of the Jennings Township Homemaker's Club, Jennings Township Top Notcher, former president of the 4-H Council and for many years served as a 4-H leader, member of the Business Women's Association, the Friends of the Library Association, Fayette County Senior Center, Fayette Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and former member of the Everton Lion's Club.

Survivors include sons, Joseph C. (Cathy) Scott of Grand Junction, Colo. and James R. (Sandra) Scott of Rush County; six grandchildren, Andy Scott, Chris Scott and Angie Scott, all of Rush County, Robert (Angela) Scott of Westfield, Julie Scott (Jerry) Westover of Independence, Ky. and Sara Scott (Alan) Leap of Flat Rock; step grandson, John Weidman of Syracuse, N.Y.; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, George Chance of Marion, Ohio and Joe (Rosie) Chance of Rush County.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Max Scott (Dec. 24, 1967), and a sister, Martha Ann Wessel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church in Connersville with Father Stanley J. Herber officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of The Library, the Alzheimer's Foundation or to the Decatur County Hospice c/o the funeral home.
