LORIS | The Rev. Drue Vollie Hardee, 89, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at his home following an illness.

Rev. Hardee was born in Loris, South Carolina, on December 15, 1919 to Mr. Robert Ervin Hardee and Mrs. Leitha Housand Hardee.

Rev. Hardee served as a pastor at Community Baptist Church in Loris, for many years and Gapway Baptist Church. He was a farmer and a member of Glendale Baptist Church since the 1940's.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Fowler Hardee of the home; two sons, Troy Drue Hardee and wife, Janice, of Loris, and Brooks Ervin Hardee and wife, Jo, of Monroe, Ga.; daughter, Joyce Hardee Stephens and husband, Rex, of Wilmington, N.C.; brother, C.B. Hardee and wife, Jean, of Florence; sister, Pearl King of Loris; eight grandchildren, Chris Stephens of Wilmington, N.C., Warren Stephens of Chapel Hill, N.C., Andy Hardee and John Hardee of Tabor City, N.C., Stephen Hardee and Bradley Hardee both of Loris, Kim Gravel of Cummings, Ga., Alyson Varalla, Loganville, Ga., and 14 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Hardee was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Lanue Hardee; and two sisters, Ethel Mae Gause and Lorraine Pennywitt.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009 at Glendale Baptist Church with burial following at Twin City Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pastor Steve Nobles and Pastor Roger Chestnut will officiate services.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Hardwick Funeral Home.
