Wilma Houghland, 82, a former Milroy, Ind. resident, died Friday morning Aug. 4, 1989 in the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, Ind.

She was born March 12, 1907, in Rush County, Ind., the daughter of Jacob and Jessie Palmer Brown. She was a member of the Milroy United Methodist Church and managed the Rushville, Ind., License Branch. She also served as a deputy clerk and as deputy recorder in Rush County, Ind., and was the former chairman of the Rush County Republican party. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Phi sorority and attended Indiana Central.

On Sept. 12, 1936, she married William G. Hougland, and he preceded her in death Nov. 5, 1985. She is survived by two sisters, Peg Gephart, Ladoga, Ind., and Ruth Huddleston, Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Wendall R. Brown; and one sister, Thelma E. Hood.

Graveside rites will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Old Milroy Cemetery, Milroy, Ind., with the Rev. Jim Bushfield officiating.

The Burns Funeral Home of Milroy, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.
