Lee H. Boggs, a Reno County resident who died in 2002, served in the Army, in World War II with the 58th Armored Field Artillery, Battalion A.

He saw 417 consecutive days of combat and received seven battle stars, serving in Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Belgium, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and was in the Battle of the Bulge.

Ella Mae Boggs’, Lee’s wife, and his son Dennis L. Boggs said the veteran was able to visit and retrace the seven battlegrounds with his Battalion on the 30th anniversary of D-Day. They crossed from England, landing at night on Normandy Beach like they did in World War II, and paid respect at the gravesite to their lost battalion buddies.

Boggs is one of more than 14,720, area veterans who will be listed on the coming Reno County Veterans Memorial Wall, 209 W. Des Moines Ave., South Hutchinson.
