Albert and Catharine (Brinker) Alford, well known and successful farmers of Jackson County. Mr. Alford was born in Missouri, May 4, 1833, and came to the Willamette Valley with his parents in an ox team train in 1850. Thomas Alford , born in 1802 took up a donation land claim which is now the location of the Thomas Alford Cemetery Association. Thomas Alford (Uncle Tommy) also engaged in farming in Oregon for the rest of his life, dying in 1895. Albert Alford located in Linn County with his people in 1850, where he married Catharine Brinker in 1853. She had crossed the plains in the same wagon train as he. In 1869, the Alfords moved to Jackson County and in 1874, settled at Talent where he farmed until his death, Oct. 30, 1921. He was county commissioner of Jackson County for several terms. Catharine Alford was born Dec. 23, 1838, also in Missouri. Her mother died en route across the plains, and the daughter, Catharine, came to know the hardships of pioneer life but possessed great ambition, especially for the educational welfare of her children. An earnest Christian she gave devoted service to the Baptist church and brought up her four children in the Christian faith. Her death occurred at Talent, October 9, 1925.

His mother was Kesia Cupp, daughter of Jacob Cupp, she was born 1802 in Virginia and died 1842 Chariton County, Missouri.
