Jimmie M. "Red" Dixon, 78, died Tuesday afternoon (May 5, 2009) at his residence in Brantley County after an extended illness.

He was a native of Charlton County, but resided most of his life in Waycross. He retired in 1995 from Gilman Paper Company after being employed for 20 years. Prior to his employment at Gilman Paper, he worked at Offerman Lumber Company for 22 years. His favorite hobby was working on lawn mowers.

He was the son of the late Carlos Mack Dixon and Tassie Stella Prescott Dixon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie McQuaig Dixon. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Howell Clark Dixon, of Waycross; five step children, Franklin Willis, Johnny Strickland, Patricia Clark, Bill Strickland and Betty Dean, all of Waycross; several step-grandchildren; three sisters, Willie Mae Dixon, of Blackshear, Mary Lou Benedetti, of Reno, Nev., and Doris Womble (Rev. J.W.), of Waycross; one brother, Jack Dixon, of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 this evening at the funeral home.
