Dies at Age 82
Has 162 Direct Descendants Among Her Survivors

Mrs. Martha Rebecca Emery, widow of Charles Emery, died
Christmas day at 3:45 a. m., at her home on Oakwood avenue, Godfrey township, at the age of 82.

Survivors Include 162 direct descendants. They are seven children, 54 grandchildren, 96 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was a native of Calhoun county where she was born March 4,1858. She had resided In Alton for the past 15 years.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lurah Gillls, Roodhouse; Mrs. Cora Smith, Pittsfleld; Mrs. Bessie Strahan, Hillview; and four sons, Adolph and Frank of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Walter and Elmer of Alton. She also leaves a brother, Thomas Hargett, Hillvlew, and four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Doyle, Pittsfield; Mrs. Filia Shinn,
Hillvlew; Mrs. Lydla Doyle, Shipman, and Mrs. Emma Doyle, Walkervllle.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p. m., at Streeper funeral home with the Rev. John Alexander of the Baptist Church at Hillview officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where friends
may call.

Legion to Pay Respects At Bier of Mrs. Emery

Commander L. M. Cummings of the Alton American Legion Post announced today that members of the Legion are to be present at the Streeper Funeral Home tonight at 8 o'clock to pay their respects at the bier of Mrs. Martha Rebecca Emery, mother of Elmer Emery, an ex-service man.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Rebecca Emery, who died Christmas day at her home on Oakwood avenue in Godfrey township, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Streeper funeral home.

The Rev. C.H. Coates officiated. Mrs. Esther Schuetz, Mrs. Ruth Sanders and Miss Lois Minor sang "No Diappointment in Heaven," "Going Down the Valley" and "God Will Take Care of You."

Pallbearers were Emmett Emery, Ethemer Emery, Carl Emery, John Gillis, John Scroggins, and Floyd Krider. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
