Norma June Bishop, age 75, of Manhattan, died Wednesday evening, October 25, 2006, at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. She was born on June 15, 1931, near Onaga, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Esther Bosse. Norma was raised near Onaga and was a 1950 graduate of Onaga High School. Following high school she attended nursing school. Mrs. Bishop was a Licensed Practical Nurse and a homemaker. For many years she was a night nurse at the DeChairo Hospital in Westmoreland, Kansas and later for the Stoneybrook Health Care Center in Manhattan. She also provided home health care to many people in the community. Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Manhattan. She enjoyed quilting and knitting and was a wonderful seamstress. She especially enjoyed making clothing and baby blankets for others. She also volunteered at the Riley County Seniors' Service Center in Manhattan. She was married in 1950 to Charles Tanner and he preceded her in death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by one sister, Evelyn. On May 5, 2003, in Manhattan, she was united in marriage to Carl A. Bishop, he survives of the home. Also surviving are four sons: Terry Tanner and his wife Pat of Manhattan, Randy Tanner and his wife Janie of Littleton, CO, John Tanner and his wife Samantha of Elizabeth, CO and Chuck Tanner and his wife Jill of Wamego, KS. Three step children also survive: Lynnette Chard and her husband Randy of Palco, KS, Janet Brown of Salina, KS and Susan Schindler and her husband Matthew of Manhattan. Four grandchildren, six step grandchildren, three great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren also survive. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery in Wamego, Kansas.
