Douglas served as a Staff Sergeant & Right Waist Gunner on B-17 "Raunchy Wolf" #42-3290, 551st Bomber Squadron, 385th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Montgomery County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on August 18, 1941 prior to the war. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, without dependents.

B-17 #42-3290, while on a return mission from Reims, France, was involved in a mid-air collision with B-17 #42-30264.

They crashed at Tillingham Hall Farm, Bulphan, England. The entire crews of both B-17's were lost.

Douglas was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was originally interred in England and was later repatriated here on May 24, 1949.

Service # 38052268

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers & sailors were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
