Howard was a retired bricklayer, and a member of Salem-Cass United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Findlay Moose, Findlay Elks, a charter member of the Van Buren Lions Club, a former Van Buren village councilman, and a past president of Local 2 of the Bricklayers Union.
He married Mary Virginia Lessig on July 3, 1937 in North Baltimore, Ohio and she survives as do three sons, Thomas, James, and Ronald. He is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Ann Baird, 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren: and three sisters, Mrs. Louise Page, Mrs. Jeanne Russell, and Mrs. Ruby Dukes.
