His obituary incorrectly states he was born in England, rather than Maine as given on the census records. He was listed as a church official assigned in 1868 to the St. Cloud District and served the Round Prairie Church within the Minnesota Methodist Episcopal Conference. He was assigned to the Osakis Church in 1872 and 1873; to the Minneapolis District in 1874; to the Montevideo Church in 1874 and 1875; and to the Atwater Church in 1876. He was ordained an elder in the Methodist Episcopal Church on 24 September 1876. He withdrew in 1883, voluntarily giving up his ministry. About 10 years before his death, he changed his faith to the "Free Methodist cult". He married Mary Warren King circa 1870 at Winthrop, Maine. After he changed faiths, he worked at a wood yard. He probably died in Huron because he moved from Wessington Springs, South Dakota to live near his daughters, one attending and one teaching at Wessington Springs Seminary located in Huron.
