Former Alaska resident Christopher Rider, 33, died July 31, 1997, of injuries sustained in a construction accident at Portland International Airport in Portland, Ore. A memorial service was held at Viking Hall in Anchorage.
Mr. Rider was born May 13, 1964, in Kingston, Pa. The family moved to Alaska when he was 10. He was a 1983 graduate of Bartlett High School, where he was active in swimming and football. He moved to Portland in 1994 to work in construction on the Rose Garden Arena. He married Peggy Lea Matthews in 1996, and the couple recently had moved to Vancouver, Wash. His family described him as a ''devoted husband, father and son.''
Mr. Rider is survived by his wife, Peggy; son and stepson, Nathaniel Rider and Rollin Pick, of Vancouver; parents, Charles and Patricia Rider of Soldotna; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Sonja Rider; sister and brother-in-law, LauriAnn and Matthew Heiken; niece and nephews, Claire, Chuck, Jake and Matthew Heiken, all of Anchorage. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Portland was in charge of arrangements.
