The following obit was furnished by Richard Paul culler of Carrollton, Ohio:

Obit in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Fri., April 13, 1900.

After a severe illness with pneumonia which lasted four weeks John J. Seaton passed away at his home on Cherry Street. From the beginning of his illness he claimed he wouldn't recover. He was born in Lee Township, this County, September 26, 1838, and hence was in his 62 year. When he was in his 23rd year, and as robust as any man of his age in the county, he volunteered in the 18th Iowa Regiment, served three years, and received an honorable discharge. He was married December 14, 1865, to Miss Letitia Shepherd and after her death he was again married to Miss Catherine Hayes, June 24, 1869. He became the father of three sons and five daughters. The second wife died five years ago last February; a daughter also died for years ago in May, but the other children have all survived. The daughters lived with him he was very much attached to them and his death is to them a very sore affliction. they are almost inconsolable. By trade Mr. Seaton was a brick mason and brick maker, and during the winter he dug coal. He was industrious man and was never idle when he had work to do. He was a member of the church for many years, and also a well informed man, able to discuss intelligently any question. He had warm attachment for all his friends. He was an ardent democrat and always spoke his convictions and gave reasons for the faith within him.
His remains will be taken to-day for interment by the side of relations. Friends are requested to meet at the house at 10 a.m. where Revs. Shepherd and Gruber will hold service.
The survivors of his father's family are: Thomas Seaton of Olathe, Kansas, an only brother; Mrs. Elizabeth Seaton of Lawrence, Kansas; and Mrs. Margaret Keller of Kilgore.
