He was a Holocaust survivor, grew up in Israel and served in Israel's Defense Forces before coming to New York. He worked as an independent industrial designer in Tel Aviv and the New York City area for many years. He was a member of the Industrial Design Society of America.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Judith Carmel; daughters, Keren Carmel and Orna Carmel; sister, Leah Neumann; and three grandchildren.
