Army Spc McCleery was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He died from wounds sustained after being shot by enemy forces in Mosul. Jeremiah was a student at Portola High School in Portola, California where he was on the wrestling team. He graduated in 2004 and kicked around doing various jobs until he decided the Army was where he wanted to be. Since he was small, Jeremiah wanted to be in the military so in 2007 he joined the Army and was deployed to Iraq in December. Jeremiah loved the outdoors and liked to go camping, sport shooting, fishing and four-wheeling. He was a loyal friend who always had his friends back. Jeremiah lost his mom to cancer several years ago and what made him the happiest was hanging out with his dad.
